How to make the perfect smoothie, you ask?


Smoothies, the most classic and cliche health food. We've all heard of green smoothies, seen people flaunting their health with a perfectly blue smoothie and wonder how can I get the same? Is it really that great for me? The answer is a big, "HELL YEAH". Was that excessive, likely, but trust me I love smoothies because they pack in the nutrients in a delicious sweet liquid form. This Smoothie Guide can help you figure out how to make the best smoothie on the block... without like the dairy and stuff.

WHAT ABOUT YOGURT?

A question I asked when I first went vegan is what do I put in my smoothie besides yogurt? I remember as a kid, looking at the yogurt tins and seeing recipes for smoothies on the back. That was the only introduction I had into the world of smoothies and I truly only thought smoothies included yogurt. Even many years later, I still get this question from coworkers and family members and the answer is much simpler than you may have thought. It's YES! You can pile on whatever fruits, vegetables, nuts or seeds into your blender and create a new tasty concoction.


Below are a list of possible fruit, vegetables, etc of what you can put in your smoothies.

What about Creaminess?

To give a smoothie a creamy silky texture is actually quite easy. The best option is to use frozen bananas. I am not joking when I say they will change your smoothie game. If you find bananas repulsive or are allergic you can also use avocado. Just freeze avocado like you would freeze those bananas and add them to your smoothie for added nutrients like omega 3's.


There are so many different flavors and varieties of smoothies that you can make. The list is infinite. I have even heard of people adding in herbs for that extra benefit. If you don't know where to start, this list can be a nice introduction.


These are the following four smoothies I enjoy every now and then, that are simple, healthy, and of course vegan.


Blueberry Blues Smoothie:

  • 1 Banana, Frozen

  • 1 C Frozen Pineapple

  • 1/4 C Frozen Mango

  • 1 C Blueberries, Fresh or Frozen

  • 1 t Barley Wheat Grass Powder

  • 2 C of Water

Steps:

  1. Throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!


Tropical Smoothie:

  • 1 C Mango Chunks

  • 1/2 C Pineapple Chunks

  • 2 Frozen Bananas

  • 1/2 C Frozen Papaya

  • 1 C Kale or Spinach

  • 1-2 C Coconut Water

  • 1 T Chia Seeds


Steps:

  1. Throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!


Garden Greens Smoothie:

  • 1 C Kale

  • 1 C Spinach

  • 1/2 C Diced Cucumber

  • Half an Avocado

  • 1 C Pineapple

  • 1 Frozen Banana

  • 1-2 C Coconut Water

Steps:

  1. Throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!


Orange Creamsicle Smoothie:

  • 1 Frozen Banana

  • 2 Oranges, Peeled and Seeded

  • 1/2 - 1 C Non-Dairy Milk

  • 1/2 t Vanilla Extract

Steps:

  1. Throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!
